Introduction of Baratang Island


Tour Overview

The Baratang Island is located between South and Middle Andaman and has beautiful beaches, mangrove creeks, and mud volcano and limestone caves. Andaman Trunk Road to Rangat and Mayabunder goes through this island. Limestone caves can be explored with the permission of Forest Department available at the island.

Limestone Caves :

The natural limestone caves are the major attraction at Baratang Island whichcan be reached by boarding a boat from Baratang jetty and riding through the mangrove creeks for about half an hour. Once the ride is over, trek through the dense forest for another 1.5 kilometres to finally arrive at the caves. The massive structures which took millions of years to form will surely leave you mesmerised and you’ll find the long ride worth it.

Mud Volcano :

The Mud Volcano is created by natural gases emitted by decaying organic matter present underground. It is active and the constant formation of bubbles is a sight to go for. The journey starts from Nilambur jetty at Baratang through the Jarawa creek.

Parrot Island :

Perhaps, one of the most mysterious islands of the Andaman group of islands, the Parrrot Island has left every visitor till date in awe. Every evening nearly thousands of parrots arrive at the island and take over the sky to constantly roost and form different shapes and trigger the imagination of the audience. No one knows why the parrots only choose the specific island to perform their act. To reach the island and watch the show, you have to take a fiber boat from Baratang jetty and cross the creek.
